Are you curious about a career where you prepare through hands-on learning? Students entering 9th or 10th grade can learn about exciting career paths in technical and vocational fields at no charge.

 

Tech's expert instructors will help you evaluate a career that you may want to pursue. More importantly, you will learn what kind of skills and education you need to succeed in these fields.

 

Classes meet at Wilson Tech's Dix Hills or Manor Plains campus. See course descriptions for exact location.

SMALL CLASSES

for Students with Special Needs

Audio Production

(Dix Hills campus)

Take your interest in music and find a career in the music industry! Combine your creativity with your interest in music in Tech’s audio production studio. You’ll learn to use recording equipment, microphones and sophisticated software to create music for television, radio, film and the internet.

 

Auto Technology/Auto Body

(Dix Hills campus)

Are you more impressed with the body design of a car or what is under the hood? You will work “hands-on” in Tech’s large auto shop as you learn auto body repair methods, and the basics of brakes, suspension and engine performance. Learn both the outside and inside of what makes a car stand out.

 

Construction

(Dix Hills campus)
Immerse yourself in the world of building where you need to think about projects from concepts to final products. Learn the proper care and safety of tools and equipment and how to work from plans and specification. Watch your ideas come to life as you complete your project!

 

Cosmetology

(Dix Hills campus)

Apply your interest in cosmetology and help others look their best. Join us for an introduction to hair styling and coloring as well as make-up, nail and skin care. Course includes hands-on training using mannequins and classroom instruction. You’ll discover some lucrative career paths in this field.

 

Culinary Arts

(Dix Hills campus)

Get a taste of how you can combine your interest in cooking with the hundreds of career opportunities available in the food industry. Learn to make delicious and nutritious meals and how to properly handle food. Enjoy the camaraderie of new friends as you sample what you prepare!

Design & Animation

(Dix Hills campus)

Let your imagination soar as you learn what's behind the animations you love. Apply your creativity to your interest in drawing and design. Work with letters, shapes, colors and patterns using sophisticated software on iMacs to create images and then animate them. Turn your creative ideas into dynamic artwork!

 

Early Childhood Education

(Manor Plains campus)
Do you like children?  Come join the fun as you create your own teaching aids. You will design a multi-sensory lesson plan based around a children's book. Use the teaching aids you create to become the best babysitter in your neighborhood and begin building your teaching career.

 

Heating/Ventilation/AC

(Dix Hills campus)

Want a career that is always in demand? Come learn how to keep homes and businesses warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Find out more as you work with temperature control, equipment design and installation in this introductory Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning class.

 

Marine and Motor Sports Technology

(Manor Plains campus)

Are fast boats, snowmobiles and motorcycles in your future?  Start learning how to maintain and service outdoor power equipment and marine engines in Tech’s small engine lab.

 

Vital Signs for Medical Assisting

(Dix Hills campus)

Bring a friend (or make a new one) and then practice taking vital signs as part of basic health exams. Students will learn to take each other’s blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration rate, and other administrative duties as the first step towards a health career.

 

Welding

(Dix Hills campus)

This class is sure to spark your interest in an exciting career where there are many jobs! After you learn the basics of oxyacetylene, arc, MIG and TIG welding, you'll put on goggles and helmet to practice making your own weldments in Tech's modern welding lab.

Auto Maintenance

(Manor Plains campus)

Discover the world of auto body and auto mechanics while working hands on with expert instructors. You will learn entry level skills to maintain and repair automobiles.

 

Building Trades

(Manor Plains campus)

Learn the basics of three of the most important trades involved in building a house: carpentry, plumbing and electrical. Gain hands-on experience as you build projects that will introduce you to the essentials of these time-honored occupations.

 

Electronic Manufacturing

(Manor Plains campus)

Have you ever wondered how electronic devices work? You will gain an understanding of electronic circuits as you learn to use hand tools to construct a project you will bring home.

 

Food Services

(Manor Plains campus)

Come bake and cook with us! Learn the basics of cooking soups, pastas, chicken and salads. You will enjoy meeting new friends and sampling the exciting foods you prepare.

 

Printing

(Manor Plains campus)

Work on a printing project from start to finish! Learn all about the printing process including camera, stripping, platemaking, press operating and bindery equipment. You will make your own project to bring home at the end of the class.

Females are encouraged to apply their interests, talents and skills to Automotive Technology, Design & Animation and Audio Production.
