Interior Design & Decoration Required Certificate Courses
Interior Design and Decoration I
This course provides valuable insight into the design industry as you learn basic drafting, space planning, traffic flow, color theory and design concepts. Students must purchase supplies (approximately $100) after the first class session in order to complete course project and other courses in the certificate program. One field trip will be scheduled. Textbook included.

Interior Design and Decoration II
This continuation of IDD Î builds on the fundamentals of design and interior space planning. Learn presentation techniques including sketching, rendering and drafting. Explore how space planning, dimensioning, textiles and finishes, furniture, lighting and ceiling plans can help solve a more complex design problem. One field trip will be scheduled.

Business of Interior Design
Make the dream of owning your own business a reality! Get started by learning the different types of business formations. Learn the nuances of accounting and legal issues, retainer agreements, lien waivers, networking, marketing and promotion, and fee structures.

Fabrics and Materials
In this hand-on course, you’ll learn the difference between fabrics and materials that you can use to design beautiful interior spaces. Wear washable clothing for working with paints, adhesives and other materials. Prerequisite: Interior Design and Decoration I. One field trip will be scheduled.

Kitchens & Baths
Sooner or later, everyone wants a new kitchen or bathroom. Learn the special considerations and requirements of these spaces through lectures, demonstrations, and a field trip to a design showroom. Develop space plans and design presentations for actual kitchen and bath projects. This course is formatted for the student planning to enter the interior design field. 24 classroom hours plus field trip to be arranged by instructor. Date to be determined. Prerequisite: Interior Design & Decoration I.

Window Fashions/Window Cornices
Window treatments really finish a room. Learn about the proper specification, measuring, and installation of soft and hard window fashions with special emphasis on the popular multi-layered treatments. Understand the use of draperies, valances, cornices, swags and jabots, blinds, shutters, shades, and trimmings. Learn how to treat special challenge windows, such as bay, angle-top, and palladian. Valuable to those considering entering this profitable and competitive branch of the interior design profession as well as those seeking personal enrichment. Prereq: Interior Design & Decoration I.
