    How to Request Financial Aid

Please apply online to have your application processed as quickly and accurately as possible. To inquire about receiving a paper FAFSA form, call 1-800-4FED-AID. You must apply for financial aid every year! Students who filed a FAFSA in the current academic year may use the Renewal Application. Include theWestern Suffolk BOCES federal school code 010147 on your FAFSA. Students and parents must submit copies of federal tax returns, W2 forms, and other douments if requested.

    Determining Financial Need

Generally, financial aid is awarded on the basis of financial need. When submitting a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), you are asking the government to look at your income, dependents and assets and calculate how much you and your family can be expected to contribute towards education. Financial need is the cost of education less the amount you can contribute.

    Federal Pell Grants

Based on federal eligibility determined by the FAFSA, this award money is used for tuition and does not have to be repaid.

    Federal Stafford Loans

Students may qualify for subsidized or unsubsidized loans based on financial need.

    Federal Plus Loans

Available to eligible parents of dependent students. Repayment of principal and interest begins immediately.

    Loans from Financial Institutions

Many financial institutions, banks, and credit unions offer loans to students and/or parents for education beyond high school. These private loans are meant to help students cover education costs not met by other forms of financial aid. It is recommended that students take full advantage of all government loans available to them before considering a supplemental private loan. Terms and conditions of loans vary so read details carefully.

Students have the right and responsibility to choose the lender from which they will borrow loan funds. When choosing a lender, students are advised to consider the following: loan program, lender fees, interest rates, repayment terms and incentives, lender stability and lender service. The Financial Aid Office is available to assist students in making informed decisions regarding borrowing from financial institutions.

Wilson Technological Center participates in the Federal Family Education Loan Program and Alternative loan programs in accordance with NYS Student Lending Accountability, Transparency and Enforcement (SLATE) Act.
